My personal favorites of 2023, a small collection of movies and exhibitions that particularly captured my attention and left a mark.
Expositions:
- Renverses ses yeux: an exploration of Arte Povera through a new lens, focusing on a new perspective on the video and photographic expressions by the artists who shaped this influential Italian movement
- Shocking – Le monde surréaliste d’Elsa Schiapparelli: a perfect fusion of art and fashion, the exhibition beautifully intertwined the sparkling garments and accessories of the designer with surrealist paintings, revealing the profound connection bewteen Schiapparelli and the renowned avant-garde artists. The exhibition testifies the enduring influence of art on haute-couture
- Basquiat x Warhol: à quatre mains: an incredible dialogue between the iconic pop artist and the young Basquiat. The exhibition offered a unique showcase of artworks collaboratively conceived, in four hands, by these two artists, unveiling the creative and friendly bond that united them
- Guy Bourdin – Storyteller: a vast selection of works by the revolutionary fashion photographer. Amidst the gray and modern spaces of Armani Silos, in a harmonious contrast, these colourful photographs came to life and captured my eyes. A totally new way of thinking fashion photography, transforming it into art pieces
- Amazonia – Sebastiao Salgado: a true visual travel in South America thanks to an exceptional display at Fabbrica del Vapore. Photographs of a sublime quality revealed the beauty of nearly untouched landscapes. The use of black and white accentuated even more the grandeur of nature, stimulating our imagination. The division of the surfaces and the nature sounds created a truly immersive atmosphere
- A’ toi de faire, ma mignonne: my most delightful discovery of the year, Sophie Calle. At the Musée Picasso, in the 50th anniverary of the death of the iconic Spanish artist, Calle has successfully filled the world’s most renowed museum dedicated to the painter (surprisingly emptied of its famous collection for the occasion). Her exhibition is an original, inclusive and engaging journey, featuring works that evoke both smiles and tears, creating a genuine dialogue with the viewer simply through her art, exactly what I believe an artist aspire to achieve.
